Getting Started in Mobile Development: The Challenges
The way people work at their desks is completely different from the way they work on their mobile devices, so the last thing you want to do is take an existing process that was defined for, say, a desktop application – and just dump it onto a mobile phone. If you do this, chances are your app will fail. So where do you turn?
You’ll certainly uncover boatloads of information on the Web, but if you’ve never done mobile development before, it’s tough to figure out what’s applicable to Notes apps and what isn’t. Then there are all the other questions: Should you create native applications or develop a browser interface? Which devices should you support? Should you use XPages or take a more traditional approach? Do you need offline support or is the mobile web enough? And that’s just the beginning…
