Lotus Notes® Traveler implementations are pretty simple. However, as with Notes, Traveler is only potentially secure right out of the box. For a proper, secure configuration that meets all of your organization’s requirements, it takes assessment, planning, execution, deployment and training – before you release any business critical data to your employees’ mobile devices.

Project Strategy Review
During this phase, Teamstudio resources work with you to design a custom implementation plan and schedule. We’ll recommend the most efficient way to achieve your goals within your timelines and budget. We’ll also work with you to document all requirements for the final implementation, and we’ll make recommend any hardware, software, and / or network changes you’ll need to meet your project goals and requirements.
We’ll discuss one of the following network configurations, depending on requirements and budget:
- Single Domino configuration
- Separate Domain / Same OU configuration
- Separate Domain / Separate OU configuration
- DMZ configuration
- Reverse Proxy configuration
- VPN configuration
Current System Assessment
With the project goals and requirements ready, Teamstudio will assess your current environment to determine the most effective method for moving forward. We’ll discuss the following:
- Total number of Traveler users today and plan for the future
- Total number of servers required
- Domino security configuration
- Traveler user policies
- Creation of device policy document
- Which devices to support
- SSL security configuration
- Proxy server configuration
- 3rd party Mobile Device Management (MDM) portal
- Planning for installation of corporate applications on mobile devices
Planning
Implementation Plan and Schedule Creation
Once the assessment of the environment is complete, we will work with you to create a plan for building an environment and executing server installations, security applications (as necessary), and user configurations. We’ll provide timelines for every stage of the plan, so we stay on schedule.
Execution
Security installs (SSL, Proxy, and Domino)
In this first stage of execution, Teamstudio will work with your Domino®, SSL, Proxy, or VPN administrators to build the recommended Traveler environment.
Server Installs
Teamstudio will set up the Domino server on which Traveler will be installed, and we’ll adjust all the agreed security and performance settings before installing Traveler. These settings will include optimization, Directory assistance, SSL, Internet sites, hardening the system, password lockout, and the creation of access groups. We may also run a group of initial tests at this time, in order to verify the configuration settings of the security installs.
Traveler Install/Configuration
In this stage, we’ll install Traveler on the pre-tested Domino server, and do additional tests to verify the security settings. Once the Traveler application is certified, we configure several end user test devices with Notes Traveler email.
User Configuration - Administration
After we install Traveler on the server, Teamstudio deploys the application to your end users’ mobile devices, using either a third party Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution or Traveler policies.
Monitoring
Finally, we’ll work with your administrators to set up Traveler, and / or other third-party monitoring techniques, to watch the server, simplifying maintenance of the new environment.
