Making the Most of Your Copy History Log

Teamstudio Design Manager has a feature called 'Copy History' that creates a log of every design element that is copied using Design Manager. To get the most out of this feature, everyone who uses Design Manager should be pointing to the same database. The best place for this database is on a common development server that everyone on the team can get to. Create a database in the Teamstudio directory on the server called CopyHistory.nsf. The easiest way to do this is through Design Manager.

Use the "Tools->Set Copy History Log..." to set the location of the new database.

This can optionally create the database if it does not exist. This step can be repeated on each of the developers' workstations when Design Manager is first installed. By having everyone use the same log database, everyone on the team will be able to see where each and every design element is being copied. This makes updating the design of commonly used elements that are not template linked much easier. Trying to find an element to update after the fact can be very tedious. While not intended to be a security measure or enforcement mechanism, using the copy history will also allow you to be sure that everyone on the team is working from the same set of core databases. Any anomalies can be quickly discovered before things get out of hand.

For more information on the Copy History feature of Design Manager consult the Teamstudio Design Manager user guide (just launch Design Manager and select "Help->HelpTopics" ).
