Olé, Olé, Olé! Teamstudio Export 4.5 is Here, With Support for OLE Objects, and More!

By Nigel Cheshire

We are thrilled to announce the availability of a new version of Teamstudio Export, version 4.5. This new release of Export includes more than 40 new features, fixes and improvements based on customer feedback.

What’s In This Release

This new version includes support for OLE Objects, AKA Object Linking and Embedding. Export can now extract embedded Microsoft Office OLE objects. With this release, we support Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents in both the older .doc, .xls and .ppt formats and the newer .docx, .xlsx and .pptx formats. As of now, other document types will not be extracted, but if you need support for additional OLE object types, please feel free to let us know!

Another major improvement to Export is that we now support database level configuration. Some applications rely on hide-when formulas using @UserRoles to control which parts of a form should be visible. Earlier versions of Export always returned an empty list for @UserRoles, resulting in potentially unexpected results.

Since user roles are specific to a particular database, it doesn't make sense to configure these in the global Export configuration. Export 4.5 adds the ability to configure, for each database, which roles should be returned by @UserRoles so that you can tailor the output as required. These settings are stored in the config folder of the PDF or HTML output and will be re-used for any subsequent exports of the same database. Although rarely needed, you can also configure the value of @UserName and any notes.ini values that should be returned by @Environment.

In addition to these two new features, there are many, many smaller improvements, such as improvements to tabbed table handling in PDF formats, better handling of corrupted documents, support for cross-database DBLookups, and more.

All the gory detail on this new version can be found in the release notes.
